Heavy rain has caused a number of localised flooding incidents in the Grampian Area in particular in the Stonehaven and Huntly areas. Response to the incidents has been ongoing since approximately 1800 on the evening of Sunday 1st November with over 330 calls being received in a 12 hour period. This is an extremely high number of calls and the Service has responded well to provide an appropriate response to all calls. Prioritisation has been given to calls where life risks are present with large resources being committed in Stonehaven and Huntly where over 150 people had to be evacuated from their properties. Much of the success of these incidents is down to the highly trained staff the Service can deploy who are equipped specifically to deal with flooding incidents. There is also a very effective multi agency approach in events such as these that ensures all possible resources such as those available through the Coastguard are brought in the help secure a successful outcome. Incidents are ongoing at the time of writing (1100 hrs 2nd November) with a major clear up operation underway. |
